FD12 To Participate In Covington-Area Haunted House
09/30/09 For Immediate Release
Wednesday, September 30, 2009
When the Shadowlands Haunted House opens this Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., it will also kick off Fire Prevention Month. FD12 firefighters will volunteer their time to sell concessions at the Haunted House and all proceeds from the sales will benefit the Fire District. Shadowlands, a D’Mented Production, will also donate a portion of all ticket sales to the District from the entire five-weekend run.
Open every Friday and Saturday in October from 7 – 11 p.m., Shadowlands is a project of D’Mented owner Danny Tastet, who has many years of experience in constructing and operating seasonal haunted houses. The presentation will involve a cast of about 30 people, and tickets are $12. While the experience isn’t recommended for young children, Shadowlands will offer a “toned-down” tour for children during which they will be accompanied by a cast member.
From each ticket sale, D’Mented will donate $2 to FD12, with the funds dedicated for the acquisition of equipment. The District will use the money to purchase remote headsets for firefighters, allowing for smoother communication on fire scenes. If enough money is raised, FD12 will also acquire thermal imagers, allowing them to locate people trapped in buildings or lost in the woods.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to work with Shadowlands,” said FD12 Deputy Chief Stephen Krentel. “Their generosity will help make our firefighters and the public we serve even safer, and we will have the opportunity to make the Halloween season an enjoyable one for many.”
“It’s an honor to work with FD12 in this project and to help the District acquire important equipment,” said Tastet. “We want to make sure they’re safe. They protect us every day.”
Tastet said he plans to make the event an annual fundraiser for FD12. Shadowlands focuses on providing fear and suspense, but not gore. In fact, most of the blood at the scene will be on Oct. 9, 16, 23 and 31, when the Blood Center will be taking donations at Shadowlands. Donors will receive a V.I.V. (Very Important Victim) pass to explore the house. The haunted house will evolve throughout October, as well, as new cast members and features are added to keep the experience fresh.
October is Fire Prevention Month, and FD12 will have many other events occurring during the month, as well.
