FD12 Reminds Drivers To “Slow Down, School Is Back In Session”
08/14/09 For Immediate Release
Friday, August 14, 2009
Covington, LA – In an effort to raise awareness and enhance public safety, firefighters from Fire District 12 are putting up banners in front of their stations and on the Fire Engines to remind the public that St. Tammany Parish schools are back in session and to encourage drivers to be cognizant of children crossing roads, waiting at bus stops, and getting dropped off in the vicinity of school property.
“As firefighters, it is our duty to protect the well-being of all students, not just the ones in our District,” said Fire District 12 Chief, Darrell Guilott. “The banners are just one way to prevent tragedy in our Community.”
“Our hope is that drivers will be aware of the increased number of children in neighborhoods, on sidewalks, and in school zones,” said Deputy Chief Stephen Krentel. “We are asking all citizens to slow down and be careful”
Although Northlake Christian is the only school within Fire District 12, the firefighters, administration, and staff still feel an obligation to protect all of Covington.
“Slow down. Schools are back in session,” said Krentel. “It is a simple reminder that might save a life.”
For 25 years, Fire District 12 has protected “Life, Property, and Environment” in Ward 3 around the city of Covington. For more information on Fire District 12, please visit http://www.fd12.org.
