FD12 Names Deputy Chief

07/30/09

Fire District 12 has created the position of Deputy Chief and named Stephen Krentel to fill the post.

Krentel, formerly Chief of Training, Safety and Fire Prevention, assumed the duties of his new post immediately following the FD12 Board of Directors meeting on July 20, and became second-in-command of the rapidly growing District. His duties will be to augment the leadership of Chief Darrell Guilott in the administration of the department’s primary functions of protecting life, property and public safety.

“The job of firefighting is very fulfilling,” said Krentel, 40, who joined FD12 in 1997. “You can make it as challenging as you want. You’re helping people and, for me, there is no better job.”

Krentel was promoted to Fire Captain in 2002, and became Chief of Training, Safety and Fire Prevention in 2007.

A St. Tammany Native, Krentel is a graduate of St. Paul’s School and received a Degree in Fire Science form LSU-Eunice. He also represents the Florida Parishes as a member of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association.

“Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position and was a natural choice,” said Guilott. “Our staff respects him and he has earned their trust. I have no doubt he will serve the District and our constituents admirably.”
