Fire District No. 12 would like to applaud one of our own, Operator Greg Valley, for his recent recognition as the August recipient of the Saved by the Belt award, presented by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and the Northshore Regional Safety Coalition.

This award recognizes individuals whose decision to wear a seatbelt prevented them from receiving serious injuries during an automobile crash.

Operator Valley was recently traveling home one morning on Hwy. 25, when his truck was struck almost head on by another vehicle that had crossed into his lane. Fortunately, with the assistance of his seat belt, he remained in the cab of his truck and only suffered lower limb injuries. Valley was applauded as Master Trooper Marchand, of Louisiana State Police Troop L, presented him with the award.

“In my position as a firefighter, I’ve seen what could happen in situations when people don’t wear their seat belts,” said Valley. “Had I not had mine on, I know my injuries could have been a lot worse.”
