Twelve newly-minted firefighters graduated from St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 12′s Training Academy last Friday, and have begun service in four Northshore fire departments.
The 16-week academy teaches the basics of fire suppression, CPR and other emergency medical procedures, fire survival, apparatus operation, and other skills essential to effectively combating – and surviving – fire-related events.
Eight of the 12 graduates have begun their service to the citizens of FD12, which surrounds three sides of the city of Covington. Two of the graduates work for Fire District 6, one in Fire District 8, and one in Fire District 13.
“These men dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to their studies during this academy, and have also dedicated their lives to protecting others,” said FD12 Chief of Training Dominick Bourgeois. “We’re very proud to offer this level of certification at the local level, and to provide these opportunities for firefighters from other districts, as well.”
FD12 firefighter Mark Miller was the class valedictorian, and FD12 firefighter Neil Navarro was recognized for Perfect Attendance, Overall Physical Fitness and Best Time in the Combat Challenge.
Other graduates were Fernando Davis Jr., Josh Murla, Daniel Fortun, Matthew Carter, Donald Hebert Jr., Jeremy Authement, Shelby Hickman, Brandon Wolfe, Regan Crouch, and Evan Armentrout. Hickman and Crouch work for Fire District 6, Davis for Fire District 13, and Wolfe for Fire District 8.
